I have a place in the country in Southern Maryland. When I can get to it, I go out in the woods and pick a spot that seems to be a little seedy or that needs to be cleaned up or thinned out, and I get my saws and I cut trees and limbs and burn brush. In a period of a week or two or three, I have it looking the way I think it should and I move on. If there’s been a very high tide or a big storm, I go down to the beach, and the beach always needs to be cleaned up. I love that kind of work—in the open air.
