Honestly, I just needed the push to get past the fear of taking that step -- I was just making excuses to hide from the commitment. Now that I've started on the project, I'm really enjoying it and learning a lot (like the joys of sewing ruffles). While I've always known I could sew these types of things, this is the first time doing so. Getting paid to try new things is great. Yes, portfolio development is a great idea. Honestly, I just needed the push to get past the fear of taking that step — I was just making excuses to hide from the commitment.

I almost always offer very small jobs to people first, because I want to see how they perform AND if they're willing to do just as much for an "inconsequential" client as they are for a large one.
